There is something about your serve that you might not know. And it can actually have a huge impact on your third shot. So what does your serve have to do with your third shot? Well read on… One of the unique elements of pickleball is the 3rd shot. The 3rd shot is really a critical moment in each point of the game. The 3rd shot is so important that we talk about it on this channel a lot…just look through our playlist if you don’t believe us! But did you know that by the time you have served, you may have already messed up your 3rd shot?

Pro pickleball player and coach Rob Davidson has noticed that many players tend to position themselves on the edge of the court for their serve. It makes sense. Push that serve angle and try to force a tougher return. As Rob explains in this week’s pickleball quick tip video, the flaw in that strategy is that you may not be making your serve that much stronger, but you are putting yourself in a poor position for the 3rd shot. Sure some top players have mastered every type of shot from every location on the court, but if your like many of us, then you need some tips to increase your odds of success.

Rob teaches his students to move their bodies to the left hand side of the court for their serve. By doing this, they are now already in a position to hit the 3rd shot with their forehand.

We all know that the forehand is often a much more accurate and stronger shot for most people, so let’s do ourselves a favor and position our serves for success.
