This week on Pickleball Channel we share a Quick Tip about a subject we haven’t really discussed yet – playing singles in pickleball.  Singles play is uniquely different than traditional doubles and you want to be ready to play your best.  Watch David Redding, a 5.0 player who is also a tennis pro from Dallas, TX demonstrate an important element to remember when you play one-on-one.

  1. You asked for suggestions so here goes:

Can you provide a video on some good warm-up drills to play before starting a game? We currently do a drive/drop drill to focus on baseline hits and third shot drops into the kitchen. We can do this with 2 or 4 players. We’re looking for some other ideas to add some variety. Thx!

Also just a heads up your Captcha qualifier is wrapping poorly and is confusing. I got (1 + 9 = [ ]) but the “1 +” portion was stuck on the previous line and wasn’t visible until my fourth attempt. Really confusing!!!

We often get 7 players for a drop-in session which typically means 3 are waiting on the sidelines while 4 play. We have started playing a version of cuthroat (2-on-1) with the 3 waiting players where the single plays on his/her serving half of the court. The single player is always the server. Doubles must play to the singles serving half of the court. We’re interested in other modifications that allow 2-3 players to play a version PB when there aren’t 4 players available. Thx!

  3. How about: The best shot(s) to hit, in doubles, against a team that rushes the net.

  4. I like a topspin lob and use it with some success in PB.Your comments on its effectiveness as a strategy in PB? I have not noticed any reference to this shot in PB.
