  1. Excellent review. But Side stacking? That’s new to me. Sounds like another 411 topic.

    • Hi Walt. Thanks so much for sharing and watching. That’s a great idea for a future episode. We have already chatted with some folks and will go over some of the reasons for side-stacking in the future. Thanks again for watching and sharing with others. All the best.

  2. Great job you three Amigos:~)

  3. WHAT IS THE REASON FOR STACKING?

    • Hi Al,

There can be a few reasons for stacking, but I would say the primary reason teams do that is to put the “wrong” person on one side of the court. This could be because you want the forehand of a player in the middle, or you want to be crosscourt (or straight across) from a particular opponent. You could even decide to stack just so your opponent doesn’t know what you intend to do, and it can cause them to hit a weak ball.

If you have a team stacking against you, try the short angle serve and see what happens! But …. if you are stacking, be on the look out for that serve to be used against you!

Hope I answered your question, thanks for watching!

      Alex

  4. Great job I love seeing old viedos that I didn’t have time to see before

  5. Another great episode Rusty! Love the side stacking service tip!

  6. Rusty, Love your 411 tips. My question concerns the balls. There is a lot of confusion as to which are indoor balls and which are outdoor balls. My understanding is, the large holes are for indoors and the smaller (40) holes are outdoor balls. But.. then the opening picture of the Gold Metal Women’s games showed the large hole balls sitting on the grass. Oh boy, now I don’t know what’s what.

  7. Hey guys. Got a couple of gripes. But, before I get into that I’d like to do my part in clearing up some of the confusion on the balls for outdoor as opposed to the indoor ones. If I’m not mistaken, there are 26 holes in the softer indoor balls that generally come in white or green. If you locate the seam along its middle you’ll notice 13 holes, so times it by two making 26.
Now the outdoor balls come in a wider variety of colors and are consistently harder to the touch. You’ll know when you get hit. Also, I think there are some with both small and big holes and others with holes of an uniform size. Either of these have a hard unsquishable plasticky feel as opposed to the indoor ones that squish somewhat and have a more rubbery/plastic feel to them, relatively speaking. I’m not sure how many holes outdoor balls have. Lost patience after 26!
Gripe one: scoring system needs to be customized. It currently adds to the confusion on some peoples memory. A good part of it is them not paying attention or remembering what the last score they heard was. The server has the obligation to say the score so all four in a doubles game can hear it. Also if nobody disagrees then the game can go on. A lot of people just do not get it !
Running off a series of numbers like in a lottery is unkind to even good players transitioning from other sports like Tennis, Badminton and Table Tennis or Ping Pong. They are used to hearing service over, side out or first serve, second serve and so on.
Gripe two: in some venues the sport attracts people with no idea of the basics of etiquette, proper line calls, trust and more decorum and good sportsmanship. I know I can generate a profitable business if I open a Pickleball rules school. Oh well, I just do that now for free but I sometimes feel people would pay better attention if it cost them something more than nothing. Just human nature, I suppose.

  8. Rusty, I am fairly new to pickleball. I have a couple of questions: I am curious about when or if slicing the ball to create a spin therefore a jump sideways of the ball when it lands is ever a strategic thing to do. Some players I have played with do it occasionally. Secondly; what constitutes a foot fault on the serve?

  9. In serving one must serve to oppusite court is it ok to step over after serve, having serve ball helded over center line and under waist.?

  10. What kind of paddle do you recommend for a beginner of 70 yrs old?

  11. Hey rusty, thanks for the info. Iv all ways used the power shot. it throws my serve off to serve a soft serve. I practice doing the soft serve, them I go to my power serve, I cant get it in. the soft angle serve , I’m excited to try! Thank you!

  12. Great video! I loved knowing why I need all three serves and it makes so much sense! I can’t wait to use the high looping serve against my “banger” friends! All your videos have been wonderful. This series of serve videos got me excited to go practice serves which I usually find too boring. Thank you!

  13. what is the official rule about having the racket head below the wrist during a serve? Gail
