Last month on “I ❤ Pickleball” we shared the story of how Stan and Maureen brought pickleball to Cathedral City, CA.  This month we head west to Los Angeles, the land of sunshine and movie stars, where pickleball is still getting a start, but growing steadily.

Watch this story of perseverance.  Pickleballer Marshall Pura details experiencing some setbacks, but finally finding a home and building a thriving pickleball community through the supportive partnership of the Glendale YMCA in California.  Always looking to grow the sport, Marshall has started something exciting on the rooftops (yes, rooftops!) of LA.

  1. Thank you Rusty and Pickleball Channel for sharing Marshall Pura’s story with us over here on the East Coast; Seeing my PB friends–Jean, Justin, Jerome, and Ken play and hearing their passions for this sport only confirmed my love for the sport and my positive optimism of it gradually spreading, up and down the eastern USA seaboard. Move over tennis and golf because pickleball is coming!! What an inspiring story of perseverance!! Mackie of Owings Mills, Md

  2. Great video that illustrates the struggle we all are having at finding support and courts for the sport we love. More support will come soon because of videos like this one. I play with Marshall in Ruidoso, NM & we have beautiful weather and courts. Come & see us there also. 3. Marshall, we are so very proud of you and all you have accomplished.
You have improved the lives of all your p-ball “children.” It is obvious that they adore you! The video is simply wonderful ! We love you- Barbara and Mark

You go Cousin Marshall! So thrilled you are getting the recognition you so richly deserve. Am counting on you for a lesson on my next trip to LA. In the meantime I will try to find a place on Long Island to get things started. Thanks Pickleball Channel for showcasing an enthusiastic ambassador to your sport.

What a wonderfully inspiring story. It is an excellent story about what our ambassadors and members can achieve when they are willing to work at it and be creative. Keep up the good work Rusty and team.

  6. This story is why many of you who love the game need to become pb ambassadors. I started the pb community here at local rec center and it gives me a very great feeling of pride and happiness seeing all the people playing and enjoying themselves, knowing that it came about from my and others efforts. Especially seeing and playing with our 84 year old really hits it home. So, get out there, persevere, and get it going.

  7. Great job! It’s fantastic to see that there are “movers and shakers” to get more people into the sport. It’s unbelievable that there is so many people that have never heard of our sport.

  8. Great story!! I have been wanting to play but could not find a nearby location. Marshall, here I come!
